The New Independent Living Service

Background

Beam is an established local charity and provider of support services for people with learning disabilities. We are pleased to announce that we are adding an Independent Living Service to our offer. After consulting with our clients and their families we have identified that many are finding it difficult to access help that will support them with developing personal skills to meet their day-to-day needs.

Delivery details

To deliver this new service we have appointed Janine Davies. Janine has worked for 18 years with Staffordshire Social Services in supporting people with learning disabilities in a day service setting where she supported people with Independent Living Skills. Janine has a wide variety of qualifications including MAPA, an NVQ level 3 in Social Care and Health, City and Guilds living skills and Safeguarding. She has also worked in private homes and local authority accommodation where she was tasked to carryout spots checks on how clients were being supported. Subsequently, from 2019 Janine ran her own Independent Living Service supporting clients referred to her from Social Service and The Probation Service.

This opportunity will be available throughout Stafford Borough and Cannock Chase District only and will operate from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

Charges

Beam will charge £20 per hour. We are happy to take clients who wish to pay through direct payments. The service would also be suitable for those who are in receipt of Personal Independence Payments.

What will beam do?

We have a wide range of activities that we will offer. This includes budgeting, money management, shopping, reading letters, responding to letters, help with domestic utilities, support at the GP or dentist, help with medication routines, learning to carry out general household task such as cooking and cleaning, help to access education and training, housing applications, support with IT skills and travel training.

We can deliver this at the client’s home or in group sessions at our office in Stafford.

Beam won’t be able to support with toileting, washing and bathing, lifting and moving, dressing and undressing, administering medication, decorating, gardening and personal care

Referrals

Beam will welcome referrals from a wide range of sources. In particular we are looking to accept referrals from Staffordshire Social Services.
