Even very experienced professionals sometimes struggle with how to help children, parents and their families who are dealing with loss, challenge and change. We deliver personal, effective, evidence-based training that leaves participants feeling empowered, and more importantly ready, to help children recover from loss and thrive.

The Helping Children with Loss course is designed to help adults support the children in their care and is endorsed by the Training Development Agency for schools (TDA).

If you work with children in an educational setting, hospital, professional practice or elsewhere, you may have heard about Adverse Childhood Events, or ACEs.
Grief is defined as the “conflicting emotions that follow the ending or change in familiar patterns of behaviour.” Children have experienced so much of this in particular over the past few months and this complex emotional state has nothing to do with their intellect and we cannot rationalise them “better”.

Helping Children With Loss is an acclaimed educational programme which has been established for over 30 years. Newly updated and revised into just 4 two and a half hour sessions (delivered either on-line or face to face) this comprehensive, structured programme will:

• dispel the myths about how to cope with grief
• enable staff to identify symptoms and behaviours caused by grief and loss
• increase confidence in talking about difficult and painful feelings with children
• provide a structure for talking to a child who has experienced loss
• enable staff to know what to say or not say to parents and relatives who are also grieving

Every participant will also receive a certificate of attendance and a copy of the bestselling book “When Children Grieve” by John W James & Russell Friedman.
