Extended vocational placements

We offer vocational placements across all occupational areas with the exception of construction to students predominantly in the 14-19 age range with some limited opportunities outside the age range. Placements can range from one day a week to five days per week in an academic year. We are also able to provide the same service termly for those students who may benefit from a shorter intervention. students can join the program at any point in the academic year.

The process starts with MLW meeting and interviewing the students. Parents or carers are welcome to attend the interview  and find out more about the programme. We ask students for 2 occupational areas they wish to work in

MLW source suitable placements that are local to the students home address and chaperone students to the company interview and to meet key members of staff.

We carry out a full Health and Safety audit, young persons risk assessment and any other checks that may be applicable.

Each student receives an individual training plan with targets they will be expected to work towards and complete at varying timescales throughout the programme.

MLW carry out a daily attendance check and reports back to each school. Attendance is tracked very closely.

A student and company feedback report is completed and issued to the school or centre each term.

MLW issue a news letter each term to celebrate the success of the students.

Destinations are tracked at the end of year 11 and issued to the local authority.

We also provide short courses that may lead to a GCSE qualification in some vocational subjects information available on request

Other notes

Our service is unique in respect of it being tailored to each individual students needs and as such will always require a meeting to assess these needs and draw up a suitable programme with costs which will need to be agreed by all parties prior to work commencing. With almost twenty years experience in this arena the process is not protracted and students can be placed very quickly but it is necessary to have the initial meeting to understand all parties responsibilities to ensure a successful programme.

MLW have the skills to work with students with disabilities, hearing impairment and other impairments depending on how severe they are.
